GENECON prepared Sunderland's exciting new Economic Masterplan.
This commission came at a critical time for the city with key city
centre schemes stalling but new economic opportunities arising
through Nissan's investment in electric vehicles, the expansion of
off-shore energy generation in the North Sea and a growing role for
the University in driving cultural change. Directing a
team of leading urban economists and geographers, property and
sustainability experts and spatial planners, GENECON advised a
senior Steering Group from the public and private sectors to
develop one of only a handful of city-scale economic masterplans
that have been prepared for UK cities. The Economic Masterplan,
launched locally and in London, sets a new economic direction for
city, which has been widely recognized for its realism and
innovation.
