A wide ranging mid-term evaluation of the North East's Rural
Development Programme for England (RDPE) was undertaken by GENECON
in 2010. RDPE comprises a range of targeted funds, aimed at
supporting local enterprise, diversifying the rural economy,
maximising 'cooperative' opportunities and supporting rural
community initiatives through the LEADER programme. GENECON
undertook extensive data analysis and a wide consultation process.
The evaluation assessed the impact of the programme to date and
provided guidance to One NorthEast on the most effective focus for
future rural economy investments. Recommendations focused on
enhancing this successful programme through introducing the
opportunities for greater innovation in local service delivery.
