GENECON prepared a full economic impact assessment to support
the case for investment in a spectacular new bridge crossing over
the River Wear in Sunderland, on behalf of the City Council, ONE
NorthEast and Sunderland arc. The scheme proposed enhanced
bridge design to create a new gateway to the city. Our analysis
examined case studies of major place-making investments that have
stimulated new private investment and accelerated urban
regeneration outcomes. GENECON's pioneering work in developing new
methodologies to measure the economic benefit of design-led public
realm investments has been widely recognised for its innovation and
adopted for a wide range of physical regeneration investments.
