Following the previous Government's review of sub-national
economic development, proposals were brought forward for
establishing Economic Development Companies to coordinate local
economic policy and delivery, building on the earlier Urban
Regeneration Company model. GENECON was appointed to advise on EDC
proposals across the East Midlands. In Leicester and Derby we led
stakeholder consultations and options analysis to consider
alternative models for integrating a range of existing delivery
bodies. In the case of Leicester this led to the establishment of a
new Leicester & Leicestershire EDC, Prospect Leicestershire,
while in Derby the approach included reinforcing the delivery
capacity of the City Council. Following the Coalition Government's
'Local Growth' White Paper, Local Enterprise Partnership's are
progressing for Leicester & Leicestershire and for Derbyshire
& Nottinghamshire & cities.
