Measuring the economic value of public goods such as heritage
assets is of increasing interest to policy makers. English Heritage
commissioned GENECON as part of a major study into the importance
of heritage as a driver for the Yorkshire economy to support the
agency's investment strategy across the region. The analysis
included a quantitative review of leisure and business tourism
spending directly linked to heritage assets, assessing the
proportion of visits to the region where heritage was the principal
attraction. GENECON developed a series of detailed case studies to
demonstrate that investment in heritage assets can be linked to
positive economic development outcomes.
