Economic Value of Yorkshire's Heritage

Back to Projects

Measuring the economic value of public goods such as heritage assets is of increasing interest to policy makers. English Heritage commissioned GENECON as part of a major study into the importance of heritage as a driver for the Yorkshire economy to support the agency's investment strategy across the region. The analysis included a quantitative review of leisure and business tourism spending directly linked to heritage assets, assessing the proportion of visits to the region where heritage was the principal attraction. GENECON developed a series of detailed case studies to demonstrate that investment in heritage assets can be linked to positive economic development outcomes.
