Universities are central to national and local
economic development policy. Their role as centres for innovation,
research and commercialisation of intellectual property, including
spin-out business activity is widely acknowledged. Universities can
also drive cultural change in place economies through links into
all levels of learning and skills development.
GENECON understands the drivers of successful
innovation strategies and systems, having advised on initiatives
such as Innovation Advisory Services and Collaborative R&D
programmes.
We have analysed university enterprise,
entrepreneurship, innovation and SME development support provision
and other specialised business advisory services. We have prepared
business plans for science parks and R&D facilities, including
the Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus, NETPark Science Park
in County Durham, an Advanced Manufacturing Centre in Yorkshire and
a university led R&D facility in East Sussex.
More widely, our work has supported technology and
knowledge transfer and 'university to business' collaboration,
linking 'blue skies' research and company R&D, as well skills
programmes such as the South East Enterprise & Skills Boards
and learning networks.
