About the role

As a Senior Consultant at GENECON, you'll be leading projects with a range of public and private sector clients and developing new business opportunities. You will work as part of our senior team in the delivery of projects across our exciting portfolio of work, including place strategies, project impact assessments, economic appraisals, business cases and funding bids projects across the UK. We are looking for an experienced Economic Development Consultant with a minimum of 5 years' experience in private or public sectors with the ambition to develop their skills and our client relationships, with the opportunity to advance to an Associate Director position within 2-3 years or sooner.

 

Main duties

• To lead economic, spatial and property related research, analysis and advisory projects and service lines with existing and new clients.

• To manage projects and client relationships, working with our Director team.

• To manage teams in the delivery of projects, including supporting the development of our Research Consultants and Consultants

• To grow our market presence and client relationships through bidding for new work opportunities.

• Leading the preparation of technical client reports and other project outputs.

• Developing relationships with our clients and project partners both within the Group and across our wider network.

• Supporting the Director team in business development, writing proposals and winning work for a variety of project types, sizes and clients.

• Supporting the Director team in promoting GENECON's and RSBG Group's brand and values in all activities.

 

Candidate Specification

As an experienced economic consultant, you can demonstrate extensive expertise in spatial economics, HM Treasury Green Book-compliant project appraisal, Five-Case business cases, and place strategy development across a range of sectors and types of activity. You will have well developed knowledge of economic development, regeneration and spatial planning policy. You must have demonstrable skills in managing and delivering the creative analysis and presentation of data sets, high quality report writing, and using evidence to present key findings. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work closely with senior client representatives in the public and private sectors. Our current portfolio of work includes national and international regeneration and spatial planning, business case writing and socio-economic impact assessments for public and private sector clients.

 

Example include:

• Our work on the UK Government's key 'levelling up' initiatives, the Future High Streets Fund and Towns Fund.

• Supporting major housing development schemes such as through the Housing Infrastructure Fund and Getting Building Fund.

• Developing the strategic, economic, financial and commercial cases for major infrastructure projects, including new employment sites, major attractions, transport, energy and heritage projects.

• Supporting local authorities and private developers in accessing Government funding programmes through project submissions and case-making, including for Local Growth Funds.

 

Essential Qualifications

• Good degree in a related discipline or equivalent i.e., economics, economic development, geography, urban planning)

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant postgraduate qualifications

 

Essential Experience

• 5 years' experience in economic development or regeneration

• Expert knowledge of current Government policies and programmes supporting economic growth

• Experience in consultancy, particularly in developing client relationships, or working at a senior level in Economic Development in the public sector

Preferred Experience

• Proven ability to develop and / or appraise economic development / regeneration project business cases

• Demonstrable experience in economic impact assessment

 

Essential Skills:

• Strong communication skills with both clients and colleagues

• Well-developed numerical and written analysis skills

• Critical thinking skills to interrogate, interpret and present data and reach creative conclusions

• Fluency with key software packages, particularly MS Excel

• Understanding of HM Treasury's Green Book and government department/ public agency appraisal guidance
